Africa Writes in Bristol

The 2019 edition of Africa Writes will also take place in Bristol. The impressive Bristol program includes two events with Hanna Ali, author of The Story of Us.

The events are on Saturday June 29. And, both events are free!

Books Make Music, Music Makes Books

14:00 – 15:30

Nadifa Mohamed and Hanna Ali, described by Africa Writes as “two of the most exciting voices shaping Somali-British writing”, will talk about their writing and the relationship between Somali music and literature.

And, it will be followed by a rare performance by legendary musician Hudeidi.

Mother Tongues: Literary Translation & Publishing

15:45 – 16:45

An inspiring panel, including Hanna Ali, will reflect on multilingualism and its relationship to African experience, as well as the ways in which digital technologies and collaborative practice open up new publishing and reading opportunities.
